About DreamHost

DreamHost was founded in Claremont, California in 1996 by four Harvey Mudd College students -- Dallas Bethune, Josh Jones, Michael Rodriguez, and Sage Weil -- and was formally incorporated as New Dream Network, LLC the following year. It has stayed independent and employee-owned ever since, with no private-equity or corporate parent. Co-founder Sage Weil went on to build the Ceph distributed storage system to back DreamHost's own infrastructure; DreamHost spun it out as Inktank in 2012, which Red Hat acquired in 2014 for $175 million. The company is headquartered in Brea, California, and by 2016 reported around 200 employees serving close to 400,000 customers.
