About IONOS

IONOS traces back to 1&1, a German hosting business founded in 1988 that later became part of United Internet. In 2018, 1&1 merged with the cloud infrastructure company ProfitBricks and took the IONOS name. United Internet spun IONOS off as its own public company on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in February 2023. United Internet kept a majority stake of around 64% and remains the controlling owner. Its co-investor Warburg Pincus sold down and fully exited by March 2025, leaving the rest as free float.
