About Liquid Web

Liquid Web was founded in Holt, Michigan in 1997 by Matthew Hill, who started the company while still in high school and built it into a managed hosting business over the following two decades. In 2015 the Chicago private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners took a majority stake, and Hill stepped down as CEO in favor of former Cbeyond chief James Geiger. In 2023 One Equity Partners bought Liquid Web and folded it into a new holding company, CloudOne Digital, alongside Nexcess and Servers.com. The brand now operates as Liquid Web by Nexcess.
